ABOUT MELANIE EINZIG

Melanie Einzig is a New York City based artist-photographer. She has been photographing the streets of New York City since she arrived in 1991. Her work focuses on the pathos, play and humor of daily life in the city. Melanie worked for the Associated Press in New York before starting her own event and editorial photography business in 2000. Einzig is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and of NYU/ International Center of Photography. Her photographs have been exhibited internationally, with a 2022 solo exhibition at the Statdhaus Ulm in Germany. Selected photos are included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of the City of New York and the Brooklyn Historical Society and other private collections.

Einzig’s work is featured in photography books such as Bystander: A History of Street Photography (Joel Meyerowitz and Colin Westerbeck 2001 and 2017 ), The Mindful Photographer (Sophie Howarth 2022), Read This If You Want to Take Great Photographs (Lawrence King 2014 and 2023),  New York in Color (Abrams 2011)  and Street Photography Now (Thames and Hudson 2010), among others.  She was a member of In-public street photography collective from 2002-2016. Her first body of street work titled Midtown received the Aaron Siskind Foundation Fellowship in 1997 and is still displayed at ZoneZero one of the first internet photography sites.
