8/2022  The Mindful Photographer

My work is included the book The Mindful Photographer by Sophie Howarth published by Thames and Hudson.

In a world where millions of images are shot every day and fast-paced environments can exhaust and stifle creativity, The Mindful Photographer proposes a simple antidote: slowing down. Through twenty concepts as varied as “Confidence,” “Gratitude,” and “Compassion,” combined with hands-on assignments, author Sophie Howarth invites readers to reflect on their photographic practice and learn to pause, pay attention, and become more attuned with the world around them.”  – from the publisher’s page

STREET . LIFE. PHOTOGRAPHY- SEVEN DECADES OF STREET PHOTOGRAPHY

12.09.2020-10.01.21

Street photography depicts public life in metropolitan centres. It shows everyday scenes and escapades, commerce and individuality, comedy and tragedy, political engagement and social change. It portrays single people who seem to merge into the crowds, creating a sense of both proximity and distance. The diversity of urban spaces and their inherent dynamism have always offered countless opportunities for photographers to capture the city’s spectacle and drama. (text from museum site)

Street Life, Crashes, Public Transfer, Anonymity, and Alienation – in five kaleidoscope-like chapters, the exhibition shows the central themes of street photography and draws visitors into a wide variety of visual worlds, some of which seem surreal. Analogue photography is alongside digital photography, the 35mm camera alongside the large-format camera, black-and-white photography meets colour photography and familiar icons of photographic history.

Bystander A History of Street Photography by Colin Westerbeck and Joel Meyerowitz

My work is included in the recent edition of Bystander available here:  https://www.laurenceking.com/product/bystander/

In this book, the authors explore and discuss the development of one of the most interesting and dynamic of photographic genres.

It covers an incredible array of talent, from the unknowns of the late 19th century to the acknowledged masters of the 20th, such as Atget, Stieglitz, Strand, Cartier-Bresson, Brassai, Kertesz, Frank, Arbus, Winogrand and Levitt to name just a few.

In this new and fully revised edition, the story of street photography is brought up to date with a re-evaluation of some historical material, the inclusion of more contemporary photographers and a discussion of the ongoing rise of digital photography. (From the publisher’s page)
